KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Defending champions Terengganu will be banking on prolific national forward Faizal Saari to inspire them to victory when the Tun Abdul Razak Cup hockey tournament begins on Wednesday (Oct 1).
Terengganu coach Mohd Harfizi Baharom said they badly need Faizal, 34, to be firing on all cylinders after four of their players, including Mohammad Fitri Saari, Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook and Syarman Mat Tee, were called up for the national training camp, while two others are with the national junior squad.
"We will surely miss a player of Fitri's quality in midfield. However, we hope Faizal will be able to guide the youngsters in the squad and power us to defend the title,” he told reporters at the Tun Abdul Razak Cup media conference at Bukit Jalil today.
In the 2024 edition, Faizal emerged as the top scorer en route to guiding Terengganu to a 2-1 win over Johor for the men's crown, while the Young Tigress emerged victorious in the women's category with a similar victory over Selangor.
The 63rd edition of the Tun Abdul Razak Cup will see 13 men's teams and 11 women's outfits battling out for glory.
