KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's hopes of an early entry into the final of the 2025 Asia Cup Hockey Championship suffered a major setback after losing their second 'Super Four' match to hosts India 1-4 in Bihar today.
In the match held at the Bihar University of Sports Hockey Stadium, the Speedy Tigers squad took an early lead through a field goal by Muhammad Shafiq Hassan in the second minute.
Continuing into the second quarter of the match, India fought back to breach Malaysia's goal with a penalty corner goal by Manpreet Singh in the 17th minute, a field goal by Sukhjeet Singh two minutes later, and Shilanand Lakra in the 24th minute.
Vivek Sagar Prasad scored the fourth goal for the Indian team in the 38th minute, thus confirming their victory.
This defeat sees Malaysia now in second place, sharing three points with China, who occupy third place, while India (four points) lead the standings in first place.
Malaysia needs to secure a win in their final Super Four round match against South Korea this Saturday.
According to the format, the top two teams in the Super Four round qualify for the championship final.
