ESSEN (Germany), July 21 (Bernama) -- National swimmer Andrew Goh Zheng Yen has a chance to advance to the final of the men's 50-metre (m) breaststroke event at the 2025 Rhine-Ruhr World University Games (WUG) today.

Andrew completed the fifth heat in third place by clocking 27.85 seconds (s) to finish behind Czech Republic's Vojtech Janecek (27.73s) and American Nathaniel James Germonpres (27.51s).

The 21-year-old Andrew's time placed him 11th among the 16 semi-finalists tonight (early Tuesday morning Malaysian time).

Meanwhile, Bryan Leong Xin Ren's campaign in the men's 100m butterfly has ended after he could only finish last in Heat Six in 54.52s.

In taekwondo, Malaysia's sole exponent Muhammad Luqman Haqim Mohd Suhaimi fell in round two of the kyorugi event after losing 2-0 to Uzbekistan's Marat Mavlonov in the +87-kilogramme (kg) category.

Muhammad Luqman had earlier defeated Kenya's Eric Gitonga Munene 2-0 in the opening round.

The national contingent has, so far, collected one silver medal through swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean in the men's 400m freestyle event.
