Wong: Phase 1 Of Perlis Malaysia Sports School Reaches 87 Pct Completion

PADANG BESAR, June 10 (Bernama) -- Phase 1 of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School construction project has reached 87 per cent completion, two percentage points ahead of schedule and paving the way for the school to begin operations next year with an initial capacity of 200 students.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the Ministry of Education (MOE) is currently focusing on operational preparations, including technical coordination, furniture procurement and the provision of facilities to ensure that the school can commence operations once construction is completed.

“As of today, the project has achieved 87 per cent completion, which is two percentage points ahead of schedule. According to the schedule, progress should be at 85 per cent at this stage, but we have already reached 87 per cent.

“We will continue with the necessary preparations so that once construction is completed and all requirements are met, including obtaining the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), the school can begin operations immediately,” he told reporters after visiting the site here today.

On April 27 last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a Facebook post, said that the Perlis Malaysia Sports School project, which had been abandoned for 12 years, should be handed over immediately to a capable government-linked company for completion.

Wong said the school would begin operations with an initial intake of 200 students - comprising 100 male and 100 female students - without having to wait for the completion of Phase 2 of the project

He added that the government had approved an allocation of RM104 million under Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for the implementation of the school’s Phase 2, which will expand its capacity and facilities.

He said Phase 2 would include the construction of an additional 12 classrooms, hostel facilities and staff quarters to support the school's full development.
