KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) has unveiled the Malaysia Rail Industry Report 2025/2026.

The report, which was launched by Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, marks an important milestone in supporting Malaysia’s aspiration to build a resilient, innovative and globally competitive rail industry, while strengthening local participation across the rail value chain.

In a joint statement today, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and MIGHT said the report is a comprehensive publication providing an evidence-based assessment of Malaysia’s rail industry capabilities, ecosystem strengths, opportunities and future development priorities.

Speaking at the launch, MIGHT president and chief executive officer Rushdi Abdul Rahim said the report serves as a strategic reference for policymakers, industry players, investors and researchers in understanding the rail industry’s current position and identifying areas requiring collective action.

Among the report’s key findings are the growing capabilities of Malaysian rail companies, the emergence of local expertise in specialised engineering and maintenance services, and the increasing importance of innovation, digital technologies and talent development in supporting future industry growth.

As Malaysia continues to expand and modernise its rail network, the report emphasises the importance of adopting a whole-of-ecosystem approach involving government, industry, academia and research institutions to drive long-term competitiveness and sustainability.

Developed through extensive engagement with industry stakeholders, government agencies, rail operators, academia and technology providers, the report presents a holistic overview of Malaysia’s rail ecosystem.

It covers key areas such as manufacturing, engineering services, operations and maintenance, systems integration and digitalisation. The report also examines talent development and innovation capabilities critical to the industry's future growth.

The launch reaffirms MIGHT’s commitment to supporting the development of strategic industries and advancing Malaysia’s position as a regional hub for high-value technology and innovation-driven sectors.

It also provides a valuable resource for strategic planning, policy formulation and industry development initiatives, as well as investment decisions shaping the future of the nation’s rail sector.
