KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- A train on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line derailed this morning while passing through a track switch area near the Chan Sow Lin station.
The incident, caused by a faulty track switch, left the train unable to move and disrupted service schedules along the affected route, Rapid KL confirmed in a statement today.
In response, Rapid KL activated an alternative plan, including free connecting train and bus services, to assist affected commuters.
Rapid KL also verified the authenticity of images of the incident that are currently circulating on social media.
"At the time of the incident, there were 25 passengers on board the train. All passengers were safely evacuated following operating procedures, and no injuries were reported.
"Passenger and staff safety remain our top priority. Our technical team is conducting further investigations and recovery work at the location," the statement read.
The alternative service plan includes trains from Sentul Timur station turning back at Pudu station with a frequency of four minutes.
Shuttle trains are available between Cheras station and Bandar Tasik Selatan station on Platform 1 every eight minutes.
Shuttle trains are also running between Ampang station and Pandan Jaya station on Platform 1 with a frequency of five minutes, and trains from Putra Heights station will turn back at Bandar Tasik Selatan station every four minutes.
In addition, free shuttle buses are available between Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin, Maluri and Pandan Jaya stations, as well as between Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin, and Cheras stations. The bus frequency ranges from 15 to 20 minutes, depending on current traffic conditions.
Rapid KL advises passengers heading into the city centre via the Putrajaya Line to transfer trains at Sungai Besi station and to follow station staff instructions throughout the disruption period.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Passengers are advised to refer to Rapid KL's official social media channels and the MyRapid PULSE app for the latest updates," the statement read.
