KAJANG, May 3 (Bernama) -- It was a sombre atmosphere at the Forensic Department in Kajang Hospital as the body of nine-year-old Nur Qaseh Deandra Mohd Qayyum, who was found drowned, arrived for an autopsy.
The victim’s grandfather, Zulkarnain Ahmad, 57, said that while the family was deeply grieving, they remained grateful that her body had finally been found, allowing them to give her a proper burial.
“As her grandfather, I am very thankful. We have been waiting for three days, not sleeping or eating. I accept whatever condition she is in, as long as I know where she will be laid to rest,” he told reporters.
Describing Nur Qaseh Deandra as cheerful and friendly, he said the last time he saw her was two weeks ago at a family gathering at his home in Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan.
Around ten family members, including the girl’s parents, waited for the autopsy to be completed. Her body will be laid to rest at the Sungai Long Muslim cemetery here.
Nur Qaseh Deandra had fallen into a drain and been swept away by strong currents in Bandar Mahkota Cheras last Friday. She was found drowned in Sungai Langat near Jalan Reko at 12.17 pm today.
Kajang Fire and Rescue Station chief and rescue commander Izman Adnan said the child was discovered approximately 10.6 kilometres from where she was reported to have fallen.
