Several Injured As Trains Collide In Indonesia

JAKARTA, April 27 (Bernama) -- Several passengers were injured after a long-distance train collided with a stationary commuter service at East Bekasi Station in West Java on Monday night, with rescue efforts under way and casualties yet to be confirmed.

According to Antara news agency, the collision occurred at about 9.50 pm (local time) when a stationary CommuterLine train on track 1 bound for Cikarang was struck from behind by a long-distance diesel service arriving from the west on the same track.

Emergency personnel, assisted by members of the public, continued efforts to evacuate passengers, with some of those rescued reported to have lost consciousness.

Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Commuter Vice President for Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said the company has yet to confirm whether there were any fatalities.

She added that further details, including the exact time of the incident and the full operational impact, would be released in due course.
