KANGAR, April 25 (Bernama) -- All parties, including government agencies, growers and industry players, are urged to step up efforts in the cultivation, research, processing and marketing of Harumanis mangoes to ensure the Perlis Harumanis brand continues to be strengthened while preserving its authenticity.

The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, said he was confident Perlis would remain a leading hub for the fruit’s production, thereby contributing to the state’s economic growth and the well-being of its people through sustained commitment and strategic cooperation among all parties.

“I am very proud to be informed that the Harumanis industry continues to expand rapidly, now involving more than 2,700 growers with cultivation areas reaching 1,800 hectares,” he said when launching the Perlis Agrofest 2026 in Sungai Batu Pahat near here last night.

Also present were the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also encouraged the public to make use of available land in residential areas by planting Harumanis, noting that it could yield positive returns in about 10 years.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness emphasised that the use of technology and innovation in the agricultural sector is crucial to enhancing productivity and efficiency, and that all parties must remain open to change and continuously upgrade their skills to ensure the sector remains relevant and sustainable.

“It is my hope that both the state and federal governments will continue to provide relevant initiatives to industry players, particularly involving fuel incentives and others, following price increases due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia,” he said.

On the three-day Perlis Agrofest, which began yesterday, the Raja of Perlis said it brings together various activities related to agriculture, livestock, agro-technology and entrepreneurship to raise public awareness on food security and economic sustainability.
