BANGKOK, April 24 (Bernama) -- Thailand and China have agreed to deepen strategic cooperation, advancing a joint action plan and stepping up efforts to combat transnational scam networks following talks between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The agreements were reached during Wang’s courtesy call on Anutin at Government House on Friday, according to Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek.

She said the meeting underscored the strong and longstanding ties between the two countries, with both sides agreeing to elevate relations to a deeper strategic partnership.

A key outcome of the talks was an agreement to develop a joint “Action Plan” aligned with the development strategies of both nations, aimed at delivering tangible cooperation across multiple sectors, she said.

“The discussions reflect a high level of trust between Thailand and China, with both sides committed to strengthening cooperation in a concrete and sustainable manner,” she said in a statement.

On security, Ratchada said Thailand and China agreed to step up collaboration in tackling transnational crime, particularly scam syndicates that have affected large numbers of people, with the issue to be prioritised under the joint framework.

“Both sides also agreed to enhance cooperation through existing mechanisms and increase joint activities at various levels to ensure more effective implementation of agreed initiatives,” she added.

She said the meeting reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in key areas, including economic development and regional security.

Meanwhile, Ratchada said Wang invited Anutin to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting, which it will host in November, along with an invitation for an official visit.

Thailand also extended an invitation to Chinese Premier Li Qiang to visit the country, with Beijing responding positively in principle while arrangements are being finalised, she added.

China is Thailand’s largest trading partner, and the two countries marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
