Tesla's Self-driving Software Gets Dutch Okay, First In Europe

SAN JOSE (California), April 11 (Bernama-dpa) -- Tesla said on Friday it will begin rolling out the advanced version of its driver assistance system in the Netherlands, making it the first European country where the software has been approved, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

Before receiving approval, Tesla had internally tested the software, called "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)," across Europe, the United States (US) electric carmaker said.

Tesla said it is seeking permission from authorities in other European countries.

Tesla chief Elon Musk has for years said that Full Self-Driving (FSD) would eventually enable Tesla vehicles to drive themselves.

The company added the qualifier "Supervised" some time ago to describe the current version, in which the driver remains responsible and must be ready to take over at any time.

Tesla drivers in the US have been able to use the FSD software for years.

Users reported many errors, especially in the early days, but Musk has since pointed to major improvements.

The electric car pioneer has its European factory in Grünheide, near Berlin, where its bestselling Model Y is built.
