MOSCOW, April 7 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The number of petrol stations in France facing shortages of at least one type of fuel is rising amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, with nearly one in five stations affected, according to BFMTV on Monday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
The government estimated on Friday that 12 per cent of petrol stations across France were running low on one or more types of fuel.
As of Monday morning, their share stood at 18 per cent. RMC radio reported that over 1,000 petrol stations in France faced a shortage of 95-octane petrol or diesel.
On March 12, BFMTV reported that the French Economy Ministry had decided against imposing fuel price controls amid the escalating West Asia conflict.
Following a ministerial meeting, it announced that several fuel companies would be capping their prices at the pump.
On March 30, Le Figaro newspaper reported that the price of diesel fuel in France had reached its highest level since 1985, approaching €2.2 (US$2.5) per litre.
On February 28, the United States (US) and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in West Asia.
This effectively halted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and liquefied natural gas supplies from the Persian Gulf to global markets.
