KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) will organise the SunMed Healthy Living Carnival 2026 on April 26 as part of its efforts to boost the community’s health and well-being, in a fun and engaging environment.

Running from 10 am to 4 pm at the SMC Tower D Lobby, the event is held in conjunction with World Health Day and carries the theme ‘Better Health. Better Life’, to provide Malaysians with the urgent need for preventive health practices, health education opportunities, and promote the adoption of healthier lifestyle habits.

“According to recent data forecasts, Malaysians’ general health and well-being state is concerning and faces substantial long-term challenges, notably noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) caused by lifestyle factors.

“Obesity rates are high, with over 2.85 million children (ages five to 19) anticipated to be overweight or obese by 2026, as well as more than 32.6 per cent of adults. The prevalence of NCDs such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer is also increasing, making it a major concern in Malaysia,” SMC said in a statement today.

SMC Business Development and Corporate Communications senior director Tan Mei Shin said the health carnival is a part of the hospital's broader commitment to empower Malaysians to strengthen their immunity, maintain physical fitness, and embrace an active lifestyle.

“We hope that, by fostering these healthy habits, we will inspire individuals and communities to prioritise their well-being and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives,” she said.

Visitors to the carnival will have access to a range of health screenings and assessments conducted by SMC’s Centres of Excellence, including body composition analysis, blood glucose and cholesterol tests, postural blood pressure tests, and sit-to-stand endurance assessments.

The event will also feature interactive and educational activities such as the Lightning Reflex Challenge, Pickleball Challenge, a Healthy Living Marketplace, hearing and cancer awareness booths, flash quiz sessions, and lucky draw segments.

Meanwhile, SMC has once again been recognised as the top Malaysian hospital in the Newsweek World’s Best Hospitals 2026 ranking, marking its second consecutive year receiving the honour.

The hospital was also named Hospital of the Year for the fifth consecutive year, in addition to winning the Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026.

“These accolades reflect the hospital’s ongoing commitment in striving for clinical excellence and strengthening its global reputation in patient safety and measurable patient outcomes,” it added.
