KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- About 1,000 visitors registered as ‘Wira Internet Selamat’ (Safe Internet Heroes) during the Safe Internet Campaign@Ramadan Bazaar programme organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
In a statement today, MCMC said the programme, held simultaneously at 19 Ramadan bazaars nationwide, supports efforts to empower the public with knowledge and responsible Internet usage practices in daily life.
It said the programme attracted people from various segments of society, including families, youths and bazaar traders who took the opportunity to learn more about safe Internet practices.
“Throughout the programme, visitors actively engaged at the campaign booths by obtaining information on cyber safety, participating in briefing sessions and collecting informational materials provided.
“The positive response reflects growing public awareness of the importance of digital safety, especially as online activities such as purchases and financial transactions increase during the Ramadan month,” the statement read.
MCMC said the programme also featured interactive sessions on Internet safety, demonstrations on activating parental controls, as well as awareness on online scams, social media misuse and cybercrime prevention.
The statement added that the programme’s success was supported by the mobilisation of MCMC personnel nationwide, together with staff from the National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI).
“Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil attended the programme at IWK Ecopark in Pantai Dalam, while Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching was present at the Temenggong Ramadan Bazaar in Kulai, Johor.
“Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also graced the event and was briefed on the Safe Internet Campaign while attending the ‘Santuni Bazar Ramadan’ programme at the Shah Alam Stadium Ramadan Bazaar in Section 13,” it said.
MCMC said it remains committed to ensuring the country’s digital environment remains safe, trustworthy and resilient in line with the government’s aspiration to develop a sustainable communications and multimedia ecosystem.
