GEORGE TOWN, March 9 (Bernama) -- The Penang Hill Funicular Service will be closed for its second annual scheduled maintenance for 2026 from June 8 to 14 and will resume operations on June 15.
In a statement today, the Penang Hill Corporation (PBBPP) said the second scheduled maintenance for the year includes replacing the coach bogies and air conditioning cooling coils.
“PBBPP carries out two main scheduled maintenance sessions every year under the supervision of engineers from the funicular manufacturer, Garaventa AG from Switzerland, to ensure the funicular system is in optimal condition and undergoes strict safety inspections.
“We also conduct funicular system inspections and maintenance on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, as well as post-operational inspections," said the statement today.
PBBPP said that during this period, visitors can opt to use the jeep service, operated by the Penang Hill Jeep Service Drivers Association, located next to the Penang Botanical Gardens Department, or use the hiking trail to reach the top of Penang Hill.
Previously, the Penang Hill Funicular Service was closed for scheduled maintenance from Jan 12 to 18.
