BEIJING, March 2 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Beijing considers it unacceptable for regional instability to have a negative effect on global economic development, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Monday.

She was commenting on the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz and its adjacent waters are "important international trade routes for goods and energy resources," the spokeswoman said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"China calls on all parties to immediately cease hostilities ... to prevent further escalation of the situation and to prevent regional instability from having an even greater impact on global economic development," Mao told reporters.
