WYF, DMDI Foundation Target Collection Of RM1.66 Mln For Food Bank

MELAKA, March 1 (Bernama) -- The World Youth Foundation (WYF) and the Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI) Foundation are targeting to collect donations totalling RM1.66 million to implement the food bank programme within a year, this year.

WYF chairman Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali said that so far, a total of RM388,525 in donations has been successfully obtained involving 21 parties including corporate bodies, private companies and individuals who have committed to making the food bank programme a success.

Therefore, he said WYF and the DMDI Foundation welcome the participation of more parties to channel donations to make the food bank programme a success in an effort to help ease the cost of living of recipients.

"The WYF and DMDI Foundation Food Bank programme is targeted to benefit 24,000 recipients throughout this year involving B40 families, asnaf, single mothers, senior citizens, people with disabilities (PwD) and needy students.

"Each month, an estimated 2,000 recipients will benefit in the form of basic food and the recipients will receive the assistance every month throughout the period," he told reporters at Istana Melaka here last night.

He said this after the WYF 2026 Iftar Ceremony and the Launch of the WYF 2026 Food Bank - DMDI Foundation which was officiated by the Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam and was also attended by his wife Toh Puan Asmah Abdul Rahman.

Mohd Ridhwan said the aid kit consisted of basic food items including rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, sardines, biscuits, soy sauce, instant noodles and eggs with an estimated value of RM50 to RM80 each.

He said The names of the aid recipients and the distribution medium will be refined to ensure that the target groups involved receive the appropriate benefits.

"The food bank's operations and basic food collection centre will be at the Kota Cemerlang Building, Ayer Keroh and we also plan to implement the aid distribution to villages or residential areas using vans," he said.

He said the food bank programme is not only to channel aid alone but to encourage the participation of youth as community volunteers to help distribute the food kits.
