Sabah Flood Evacuees Rise To 6,910 As Of 4 PM

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- The number of flood evacuees in Sabah rose to 6,910 from 2,282 families as of 4 pm today, compared with 6,732 people from 2,293 families reported earlier.

The Sabah Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, in a statement, said Tenom district recorded an increase to 5,246 people from 1,741 families, up from 4,500 people from 1,507 families as of 8 am today.

In Beaufort, the number of evacuees remained unchanged at 1,462 people from 467 families, while in Membakut, the figure dropped to 202 people from 74 families, compared with 441 people from 173 families this morning.

Meanwhile, two temporary relief centres in Sipitang were closed at 12 noon, with all 329 evacuees from 146 families allowed to return to their respective homes.

Currently, floodwaters have submerged 93 villages in Beaufort, as well as 46 in Tenom and 16 in Membakut.

All evacuees have been placed at 34 relief centres that have been operating since last Wednesday, with the floods affecting 155 villages across the three districts and disrupting residents’ daily activities.
