IPOH, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The MADANI recreational park in Kampung Baru Ayer Tawar became the focal point of Chinese New Year celebrations last night, as a vibrant fireworks festival drew more than 5,000 visitors.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the event not only added to the festive cheer but also strengthened unity and goodwill among Malaysia’s multiracial communities.

“The fireworks festival reflects the spirit of togetherness among people of different races, cultures and faiths in our country, who never miss the opportunity to visit one another and foster closer ties.

“It is this cultural diversity and shared spirit of unity that form the strength and uniqueness of our nation,” he said in a statement today.

Nga, who is also the Kepayang assemblyman, said Kampung Baru Ayer Tawar, previously crowned champion in a new village beautification competition, is increasingly gaining recognition as a community hub and a destination for local visitors.

“Organising events like this helps stimulate social and economic activities in the area, while promoting the unique identity of new villages as part of our national heritage,” he said.

Also present were Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham and Pantai Remis assemblyman Wong May Ing.
