JAKARTA, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- Several entertainment and nightlife premises in Indonesia’s capital will be closed throughout the holy month of Ramadan under a directive issued by Jakarta Provincial Government.

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Head Andhika Permata said the affected premises include nightclubs, discotheques, steam baths, massage parlours, adult amusement centres and bars, according to ANTARA News Agency, on Tuesday.

He said the premises are required to close from one day before the start of Ramadan until the second day of Aidilfitri.

However, Andhika said exemptions were granted to businesses operating in four- and five-star hotels and certain designated commercial areas, provided they are not near residential neighbourhoods, houses of worship, schools or hospitals.

He said businesses allowed to operate during the period are limited to hours between 8.30 pm and 1.30 am local time, and must carry out a “closed bill” process one hour before the end of the permitted operating hours.

He said the directive was issued to maintain public order and ensure a conducive atmosphere in the capital.
