PHNOM PENH, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- Myanmar has asked Timor-Leste Chargé d’Affaires based in Yangon to leave the country within a week for interfering in its internal affairs.

The Foreign Ministry said that Elisio do Rosario was instructed to leave Myanmar by February 20 under Article 9 of the Vienna Convention, reported state media The Global New Light of Myanmar on Monday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Timor-Leste received members of the Chin Human Rights Organisation who filed a criminal complaint against members of the Myanmar Armed Forces on January 14 this year.

“…is totally unacceptable which constitutes a blatant violation of the fundamental principles enshrined in the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia,” said the ministry.

During the last ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Timor-Leste became the 11th member of the regional bloc.           Myanmar is preparing to install a new government after hosting a three-phased multi-party election that concluded on January 25. It was the first elections after almost five years since the military coup in February 2021.
