KUANTAN, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The Wanita Jelajah Desa (Sukma Waja) programme is expected to help build strength within communities and ensure that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) continues to work hard to win the hearts of the people in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, said Wanita PKR chief Fadhlina Sidek.

She said the Sukma Waja components encompass activism, involving teams going to ground to engage with communities, while the education aspect focuses on efforts to enhance awareness and continuous advocacy for women’s rights.

“We believe that when women are prosperous, protected and given due attention in economic, social and educational development, the nation will also prosper,” she told reporters after officiating the Sukma Waja Carnival at Taman Gelora here today.

At the same event, she also launched the Silat Srikandi Gelanggang Seri Teja, attended by the Prime Minister’s Political Secretary and Pahang PKR chairman Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi and Wanita PKR (Women's wing) deputy chief Juwairiya Zulkifli.

Fadhlina, who is also Education Minister, said Sukma Waja will focus on women, particularly at the parliamentary constituency and party levels, to ensure that communication and the delivery of information to the people can be strengthened.

“Insya-Allah, from time to time we will continue to intensify efforts so that the Sukma Waja message, specifically for the well-being of women, reaches the entire country,” she said.

Speaking about Silat Srikandi Gelanggang Seri Teja, she said the martial art will be introduced as one of the significant Sukma Waja programmes to encourage the participation of teenage girls in healthy activities as well as to learn basic self-defence.

“This programme will also include modules arranged by Wanita Keadilan Pahang as a medium to educate and empower young women,” she said.

Meanwhile, Fadhlina said PKR will continue to empower women through efforts to increase women’s representation in Parliament, which has yet to reach 30 per cent.

“If we take care of women and provide opportunities and space for them, including in education which is now increasingly open, I am confident Malaysia will continue to be an example in the context of women’s success in Parliament, the Cabinet and society,” she said.
