IPOH, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- A Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student was found drowned after swimming with two friends near the Teratak River View bridge at Sungai Bernam, near Tanjong Malim, today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received a report regarding the incident involving the victim, Muhammad Afiq Aizat Muhd Shukri, 23, at 6.57 pm.

“According to the victim’s friends, they were swept away by the current about 10 metres from where they were swimming. The victim was reportedly dragged into a nearby deep pool, while his two friends managed to save themselves after being washed into shallower waters.

“The victim was later brought to the riverbank by members of the public. Rescuers administered emergency aid at the scene before the victim was confirmed dead by a Ministry of Health medical team,” he said in a statement tonight.

Sabarodzi added that the body has been handed over to the police.
