Arrest Of Preacher: Public Urged To Withhold Judgment, Not Speculate Against MACC

IPOH, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The public is advised to refrain from making negative speculations about the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following its actions against individuals, including religious figures, over alleged abuse of power or corruption.

Perak Deputy Mufti Datuk Zamri Hashim said he viewed several recent cases involving individuals described as Islamic preachers with concern, but would leave the matter entirely to the commission to carry out investigations.

“We view this matter with concern and trust in the transparency of the MACC and related agencies to conduct investigations transparently.

“Let the MACC and the relevant agencies carry out their duties, as this is within their jurisdiction and area of expertise,” he said when met after the launch of the Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) 2026-2030 and the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) of the Perak State Mufti Department at the MACC office here today.

Zamri also stressed that the public should not criticise the agency, as all actions are taken based on the results of investigations.

At the same time, he reminded the public not to pass judgment on individuals who are detained or under investigation, stressing that allegations against them must first be proven.

“The accused should not be presumed guilty. Let the authorities conducting the investigation and the courts determine the truth.

“We, as members of the public, should not be quick to judge, whether it concerns the individuals under investigation or the MACC,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zamri said the implementation of the OACP 2026–2030 was not a seasonal initiative but a continuation of a long-standing commitment.

He said that in the first phase of implementation, a total of 79 initiatives were formulated and carried out, while the second phase would see the department introduce 25 more targeted and high-impact initiatives.
