SINGAPORE, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- No cases of Nipah virus infection linked with the cases in West Bengal and Bangladesh have been reported in Singapore to date, said the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA).
In a statement, the agency said it is aware of a case of Nipah virus infection reported in Naogaon District, Rajshahi Division in northwest Bangladesh and is closely monitoring the situation.
According to the World Health Organisation, the case in Bangladesh involved an adult with a history of consuming raw date palm sap, a known risk factor for Nipah virus infection.
"There is currently no evidence that the case in Bangladesh is related to the cases in West Bengal, India, or of any human-to-human transmission in Bangladesh," said CDA.
The CDA highlighted that it has progressively implemented public health measures to prevent Nipah virus infection in Singapore since Jan 28, 2026.
The measures include disseminating health advisories at Singapore's points of entry; and temperature screening at the airport and seaports for flights and ships arriving from affected areas in India.
Additionally, the SG Arrival health declarations have been updated to include Nipah virus infection, and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is stepping up surveillance of newly arrived migrant workers from South Asia.
"CDA will continue to closely monitor the global Nipah virus situation and will adjust the current health measures when necessary," it added.
