Uni-Fuels To Offer EU Emissions Allowances For Shipping

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Uni-Fuels Holdings Limited announced its wholly owned subsidiaries will offer European Union Allowances (EUAs) to help shipowners and operators comply with the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) as it applies to maritime transport.

The Singapore-headquartered marine fuel provider said Uni-Fuels Pte Ltd (Uni-Fuels Singapore) and Uni-Fuels Middle East FZCO (Uni-Fuels Dubai) will provide access to EUAs as part of its broader suite of marine fuel and compliance solutions, supporting customers navigating tighter environmental regulations.

“With a growing need for greater operational transparency and environmental commitment across global maritime operations, shipowners and operators are facing a significant regulatory shift.

“We are supporting our customers by providing reliable access to EUAs alongside the core services they already trust,” said Uni-Fuels Chief Operating Officer, Stefanie Tay in a statement.

Tay said the EUA offering forms part of Uni-Fuels’ 2026 global strategic roadmap, which focuses on scaling operations and expanding service offerings across the maritime sector.

She added that the initiative strengthens its value proposition by helping shipowners and operators manage regulatory risk and meet compliance requirements while maintaining focus on core operations.

Under the EU ETS, shipowners must monitor and verify vessel emissions and surrender a corresponding number of EUAs annually. The regime was extended to maritime transport from Jan 1, 2024, requiring allowances for 40 per cent of verified emissions in 2024, rising to 70 per cent in 2025 and reaching full compliance in 2026.

Failure to surrender sufficient allowances may result in financial penalties and enforcement actions, increasing demand for timely and reliable access to EUAs, the company said.
