KINABATANGAN, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, has expressed his appreciation for the support shown by component parties of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which have been actively campaigning to back his candidancy.
Mohd Kurniawan Naim, better known as Naim Moktar, said the cooperation among coalition partners in the Sabah Unity Government was vital to the state’s stability and development.
“I am truly pleased with the support, which has certainly been an added boost to campaigning across all areas,” the Kinabatangan UMNO youth chief told reporters after visiting the Kampung Balat and Kampung Sangau polling districts here today.
With five days to go before polling on Jan 24, he said he has visited over 20 polling districts in Kinabatangan since nominations opened on Jan 10.
He said, despite travelling by boat and four-wheel-drive due to the area’s terrain, he remained determined to reach voters across all areas, including the interiors such as Inarad, Kuamut dan Karamuak.
Mohd Kurniawan Naim is up against Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan) and Goldam Hamid (Independent), while the Lamag state seat sees Mohd Ismail Ayob face Mazliwati Abdul Malek (Warisan).
The by-elections follow the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on Dec 5 last year.
The Election Commission has set early voting for this Tuesday.
