2025 GDP Growth Of 4.9 Pct Reflects Effectiveness Of MADANI Economy

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) growth estimate of about 4.9 per cent, which exceeds the government’s official projection range of 4.0-4.8 per cent, underscores the effectiveness of economic reforms under the MADANI Government, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Although Malaysia felt the effects of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States last year, the MADANI Government’s economic reforms had helped cushion the impact on the broader population, he said.

“Targeted subsidies for those in need have acted as a buffer, preserving the purchasing power of the people.

“The strengthening of diplomatic ties with various countries also reinforced confidence in revitalising foreign direct investments and trade with Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar added that the MADANI Economy framework will continue to serve as a guiding compass in strengthening reform efforts towards a more equitable, resilient and sustainable economy.

Earlier today, the Department of Statistics Malaysia reported that Malaysia’s economy is estimated to have expanded by 4.9 per cent in 2025, close to the 5.1 per cent growth recorded in 2024.

Malaysia’s economy is projected to grow by 5.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, supported by a strong performance in the main economic sectors and robust domestic demand.

According to the department, the GDP performance is also driven by the 5.4 per cent growth in the services sector.
