Shamsul Azri Urges Enhanced Communication For Better Public Understanding

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar has reiterated that government communication needs to be enhanced so that all initiatives implemented can be fully understood by the people.

Speaking to reporters after presenting the KSN 2026 message here today, he also emphasised the importance of the ministry and departments in ensuring that information is delivered clearly and in cutting down on the use of formal phrases or the "Putrajaya language” (government language) that are difficult to understand.

"For example, when we celebrated the third anniversary of the MADANI Government in Putrajaya (last December), we held face-to-face (surveys) with those present. So, 46 per cent said they were not even aware of the government initiatives, although they had been implemented for the past three years.

"This is proof that our communication is quite weak. So, this year, we must improve our communication. And, another thing which I always mentioned, we must lessen the use of the Putrajaya language,” he said.

Earlier, in his message, Shamsul Azri said the direction of the civil service, themed ‘Mempercepat Pelaksanaan, Memperhebat Reformasi’ (Accelerating Implementation, Intensifying Reform), demands swift results, simplified processes and the ability to translate policies to action without unnecessary delays.

"Intensifying reform, meanwhile, means ensuring reform efforts are not limited solely to medical procedures, but actually change the way we think, work and serve,” he said.

In addition, he also stipulated that 500 projects under the Reformasi Kerenah Birokrasi (RKB) initiative (Reforming Bureaucratic Red Tape) must be completed this year.

"For this, I ask that the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), the Special Task Force on Agency Reform (STAR) and the Public Service Reform Agenda (ARPA) to monitor their implementation,” he added.
