Six Men Remanded Between One And Four Days To Assist Investigation Over Rioting

MELAKA, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Six men were remanded for between one and four days by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court here today to assist in the investigation into the rioting case in Melaka Raya yesterday.

The remand order starting that day was issued by Magistrate N Sivashangari against all the suspects aged between 20s and 40s.

According to the order, one of the suspects was remanded for four days while the other five were remanded for a day.

This is to assist in the investigation under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing and importing imitation weapons, Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Yesterday, the police arrested six men to assist in the investigation into the rioting incident in the Melaka Raya area with initial investigations finding that the incident was caused by provocation and misunderstanding which led to the rioting.
