KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Rahmah Sales programme, which will be held more frequently nationwide beginning Jan 9, aims to provide continuous relief from rising living costs by ensuring access to basic necessities at lower prices.
In JOHOR, housewife Nurul Hidarina Mohammed Azam, 35, said the programme has helped her family better manage grocery expenses.
“I regularly visit these sales (programme) because prices are lower than the market. Although the difference may only be a few ringgit and seem small to some, it is meaningful to us and helps cover other household needs.
“I hope this initiative will continue so that its benefits can be enjoyed by the people, while also offering more options for prudent spending,” said the mother of two.
Trader Suriani Hassan, 36, said the programme serves as an excellent platform for generating income, citing strong public response whenever it is held.
“I allocate space at my shop to help small traders, especially housewives, sell food products. As such, this sales (programme) indirectly creates wider opportunities for small traders to increase their sales and income,” she said.
In PERAK, state Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) director Azleena Zainal Abidin said following the successful implementation of 285 MADANI Agro Sales sessions statewide in 2025, the agency expects this year’s programme to be more focused, targeted and impactful in meeting local needs.
“Among the key plans identified is the organisation of a Special MADANI Agro Sales in Kerian ahead of Chinese New Year and Ramadan, to help the people make early preparations for the festive season,” she said when contacted by Bernama today.
Meanwhile, Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said a total of 2,124 sales programmes are planned across 59 state constituencies in the state this year.
In PERLIS, housewife Nurul Aina Rahman, 34, said the government’s sales initiative has helped reduce her family’s monthly grocery expenses.
“With lower prices, we can save and buy sufficient basic necessities for a month,” she said.
Civil servant M. Ravindran, 41, described the programme as a timely government measure to address rising cost-of-living pressures, a view shared by retiree Lim Wei Kiat, 66, who also hopes the programme will continue to be held regularly.
In KELANTAN, fish trader Normawati Hashim, 43, from Kampung Panji said the increased frequency of MADANI Rahmah Sales has made it easier for residents to obtain basic supplies without having to wait for long periods.
“When these sales are held more frequently, people can plan their purchases better and do not need to buy in large quantities, which in turn helps reduce household expenses,” she said when met at Pasar Siti Khadijah today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his address at the January monthly assembly with Prime Minister’s Department staff and the 2026 New Year message in Putrajaya yesterday, announced that the MADANI Rahmah Sales programme will begin on Jan 9 and be held three times a month in each state constituency.
Anwar said more than 23,000 MADANI Rahmah Sales programmes will be organised nationwide, involving 600 state constituencies and 40 locations in the Federal Territories, to ensure basic necessities are offered at prices lower than prevailing local market rates.
