MANJUNG, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- Any proposals or calls made at the UMNO Youth Special Convention, including those related to the party’s position in the Unity Government, will be submitted for consideration by the UMNO Supreme Council, Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said.
He said views expressed by the party’s youth wing at the convention held yesterday were within their rights, but decisions on UMNO’s direction would be made through the party’s established decision-making structure.
“That is the view of the Youth wing, and as stated by the UMNO Youth chief (Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh) yesterday, any views, demands or proposals will be referred to the Supreme Council.
“He understands that whatever suggestions or steps put forward will be submitted to the higher party leadership, namely the UMNO Supreme Council,” he told reporters after the handover of assistance to 1,350 students under the Back to School programme here today.
Zambry, who is also an UMNO Supreme Council member, said the party’s decision-making process is conducted collectively and maturely, in line with UMNO’s traditions and practices.
The UMNO Youth Special Convention, held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) yesterday, among others, discussed UMNO’s direction within the Unity Government.
