Victim Of Attack In Sungai Bakap Now In Critical Condition – Police

NIBONG TEBAL, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- A man who was injured after being attacked by a group of masked individuals armed with sharp objects at a restaurant in Sungai Bakap here yesterday is reported to be in critical condition.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the victim, in his 30s, is receiving treatment at Seberang Jaya Hospital after sustaining serious injuries to several parts of his body, while another injured man is being treated at Sungai Bakap Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

“Preliminary police investigations found that they were drinking together with another victim at the restaurant before they were suddenly attacked by 15 masked men, and so far we have detained two suspects to assist with investigations,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

The other victim was killed in the incident.

Azizee said the two men, aged 24 and 36, have been remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and efforts to track down the remaining individuals involved in the incident are actively ongoing.

The incident, which occurred at about 4.30 pm, saw a group of men armed with machetes attacking the victims, allegedly over dissatisfaction related to a debt issue. Several videos on the incident have gone viral on social media.
