KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief (MAHAR) has stressed that global solidarity with the Palestinian struggle must continue, ensuring that the world’s attention does not shift away from the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
MAHAR’s Director of Communications, Tengku Ain Tengku Abdullah, said the courage of activists and volunteers participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission should be commended, but that spirit must be channelled into sustained and meaningful efforts to help the people of Gaza.
“In recent weeks, the world’s attention has been drawn to courageous missions like the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF). Stories of bravery from activists, including Malaysian volunteers who risked their lives to deliver aid, have filled the media. We celebrate this spirit of solidarity.
“However, the same spirit must be channelled to ensure that our main focus does not waver — on Gaza and the deep humanitarian crisis there. These missions are catalysts, but our true focus must remain on rehabilitation and the survival of the Palestinian people,” she said in a statement on Sunday.
She said the flotilla mission, which directly challenged the blockade on Gaza, symbolises humanitarian resolve and serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing siege — the root cause of suffering among the people in the territory.
“The stories of detained activists and the hardships they endured should not just make headlines but inspire action. It should shift the conversation from merely ‘activist struggle’ to the ‘urgent needs of the people of Gaza’.
“We must use this momentum to build a positive narrative of resilience and how the world can help restore their dignity,” she added.
Commenting on her organisation’s role, Tengku Ain said MAHAR remains guided by the principle that effectiveness is not determined by the scale of aid, but by consistent commitment.
“At MAHAR, we hold firmly to the philosophy that effectiveness lies in sustained commitment, not merely in scale.
“We ensure that our main focus remains unwavering: however modest, MAHAR continues to provide assistance to the people of Gaza. This reflects the spirit of Sumud (steadfastness) that underpins all our efforts,” she said.
She noted that ongoing assistance — including food, clean water, and medicine — is essential for survival, alongside long-term recovery projects such as education, and care for orphans and vulnerable groups.
Tengku Ain also urged Malaysians to remain united in advocating for the welfare of the people of Gaza and to use the spirit of the GSF as a catalyst for greater humanitarian action.
“Keep Gaza at the forefront. Let us show that Malaysia stands firmly with the people of Gaza. Do not let our focus shift. Use the spirit of GSF as a springboard for larger and sustained humanitarian action,” she said.
She also reminded that every contribution, no matter how small, carries significant meaning for the lives of Gazans.
“What you can do now is to contribute continuously — remember, every act of aid is a step toward life. Channel your contributions through trusted organisations.
“Stay informed and spread awareness. Make sure what you share on social media highlights the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, not distractions. Share stories of hope and recovery needs,” she said.
Concluding her statement, she reaffirmed that the ultimate goal of this humanitarian struggle remains — to ensure that Palestinians achieve freedom and a life of dignity.
“Gaza deserves a life of peace and dignity. With deep solidarity, we will continue to strive to ensure that every contribution and focus advances humanity, justice, and a brighter future for the Palestinian people.
“Our ultimate goal remains firm — to see Palestine, including Gaza, achieve complete and lasting independence. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” she said.
