PUTRAJAYA, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The government today announced the expansion of eligibility under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) targeted subsidy system to three new groups, benefitting more than 31,000 people nationwide.
In a statement, the Finance Ministry (MoF) said the expansion covers over 17,900 fishermen registered with the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM), more than 4,300 private boat owners registered with the Sabah Ports and Harbours Department, and over 9,700 new driving licence holders recorded by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
“With this expansion, they are now among over 16 million Malaysians enjoying the subsidised RON95 fuel price of RM1.99 per litre, compared with RM2.60 per litre without subsidy,” the ministry said.
The government is finalising additional data involving unlicensed boat users in other states, particularly Sabah and Sarawak, the MoF added.
At the same time, MoF said discussions between the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and e-hailing operators are being coordinated to implement an increase in the monthly fuel eligibility ceiling of over 300 litres for full-time e-hailing drivers.
The measure aims to ensure that the livelihoods of full-time e-hailing drivers are not affected by the implementation of the targeted subsidy scheme.
“The MADANI government remains committed to ensuring that this targeted subsidy programme is implemented efficiently, transparently, and continues to deliver direct benefits to the people,” the ministry said.
MoF also assured that it will continue to monitor the implementation of BUDI95, together with relevant agencies, and make improvements from time to time.
