SALFIT (Palestine), Sept 23 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and Andorra, describing it as a historic and principled step that upholds international law and United Nations (UN) resolutions.
In a statement, the ministry said the recognitions represent an important contribution to advancing peace efforts and realising the two-state solution, the Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.
It expressed deep gratitude to the countries, their leaders, governments and peoples, and reaffirmed Palestine’s commitment to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations with them and deepening coordination across all fields.
The ministry also called upon other countries that have yet to recognise Palestine to take this step as a means of safeguarding the two-state solution.
It urged them to play an active role in international efforts to bring about an immediate end to the ongoing war, protect civilians, and launch a credible political process to end the occupation.
“Such efforts are essential to enable the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with the New York Declaration, the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and international law; thereby paving the way for security, stability and prosperity for all the states and peoples of the region,” the statement added.
