IPOH,  Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Four villages in Behrang Ulu, near Tanjong Malim, are hit by flash floods following heavy rain early today.

The Civil Defence Force (APM) Operations Control Centre (PKOD)  in Muallim(PKOD), when contacted by Bernama, said the villages are Kampung Sungai Sekiah, Kampung Batu 7, Kampung Baru Behrang Ulu and Kampung Batu 8.

It said 15 families from Kampung Sungai Sekiah and Kampung Batu 7 have been temporarily housed at the Kampung Sekiah Community Hall.

The flash floods also cause some roads to be underwater, with the main road in Behrang Ulu, FT 1 Jalan Tanjung Malim-Slim River, closed to light vehicles.

"The road that is closed is FT 1 Jalan Tanjung Malim-Slim River (Behrang Ulu),” it said.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Perak Acting Assistant Director of Operations, Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah,  said more than 20 victims were reported trapped due to flooding in Kampung Simpang 4 Dalam, near Tanjong Malim.

A team from the Tanjung Malim and Slim River fire and rescue stations have been dispatched to the scene to evacuate the victims.

Meanwhile, Muallim District Officer Mohd Sabli Bakri, who is also Muallim Disaster Management Committee chairman, in a statement, said that the relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Kampung Sekiah Temporary was opened at 10.30 am today to accommodate victims from Kampung Batu 7, Kampung Sekiah and the surrounding areas.

In another statement issued by the Muallim  APM PKOD, it said the heavy rain, which hit the district for more than six hours since about 8.15 am today, caused the water from Sungai Bernam to overflow into nearby houses and camp sites in Kampung Simpang 4 Dalam.
