A 26-year-old man was killed after being buried in soil during excavation and pipe installation work at the site in Kampung Teluk Kepayang, Bota Kiri.
According to him, 1,038 prosecution cases with penalties amounting to RM15.8 million were recorded from 2022 until last July under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) and the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (Act 139).
He said 2,469 compounds valued at RM6.9 million were issued over the same period, in addition to 36,458 notices of improvement and prohibition, as well as 142,474 directive letters.
“By sector, manufacturing activities accounted for the highest number of prosecutions with 583 cases, followed by the construction sector with 272 cases.
“In terms of penalties, the manufacturing sector recorded more than RM7.7 million, followed by construction with RM5.1 million,” he added.
