KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- Balsam Hill, the global leader in premium artificial Christmas trees and holiday décor, has introduced sustainable materials in the production of its heirloom-quality Christmas trees.

The company in a statement said it is the first retailer in the world to offer Christmas trees with True Needle tips made from plant-based polyethylene derived from sugarcane instead of fossil fuels.

From the 2025 holiday season production line, all other True Needle trees will also incorporate 30 per cent post-consumer Global Recycled Standard (GRS)-certified recycled polyethylene sourced from water bottle caps.

Balsam Hill Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mac Harman said the company recently succeeded in producing a tree from recycled Balsam Hill trees, which now serves as a display piece in its design studio to highlight its commitment to innovation and sustainability.

“While our trees have always been reusable, these advances are a game changer for the Christmas tree industry. We are now offering more sustainable options that will remain at the centre of family celebrations for many years,” he said.

Beyond product development, Balsam Hill is also rolling out environmentally friendly practices across its operations. These include the use of recycle-ready packaging, replacing plastic tape with paper tape, and removing bubble wrap from most packaging since 2024.

This year, the company will pilot a Christmas tree collection and recycling programme in Dublin, Ireland, while continuing its annual artificial tree and holiday light recycling initiative at its outlet in Burlingame, California.

Plans are underway to expand the programme across the United States (US), with more than 85 per cent of its Christmas trees produced this year using the new sustainable materials.

The products will be available through its online platforms in the US, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.
