MPRC Urges OGSE Players To Leverage Their Expertise To Capture Markets Of The Future

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) has called on the country’s oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) players to turn their proven expertise into future advantage.

President and chief executive officer Mohd Yazid Ja’afar said Malaysia’s OGSE ecosystem is built on decades of deepwater expertise, world-class engineering and strong local content.

“This track record makes Malaysia a credible partner on the world stage. The task now is to turn those assets into future advantage,” he said in a special address at the opening of the three-day Oil and Gas Asia (OGA) 2025 here today.

Also present were Sarawak's Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Informa Markets Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat and Petronas executive vice president and chief executive officer of gas and maritime business Datuk Adif Zulkifli.

At the trade event, Mohd Yazid made a threefold appeal directed at OGSE companies, investors and policymakers.

According to him, OGSE companies must go beyond serving today’s projects and prepare to “capture tomorrow’s markets in low-carbon technologies, digital solutions and sustainable services.”

“In this regard, MPRC is guiding companies into areas such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage  (CCUS) and hybrid hydro floating solar, which are part of the National Energy Transition Roadmap’s (NETR) flagship projects.

“Malaysia’s foray into these segments will depend heavily on the engineering and service expertise within our OGSE base,” he said.

Mohd Yazid also called on investors and international partners to leverage Malaysia's position as a gateway to ASEAN.

“Malaysian firms bring proven technical experience, cost competitiveness, and a willingness to collaborate. Engage with them at this show (OGA 2025) -- sign memoranda of understanding, explore joint ventures, and identify projects where Malaysian capability can multiply your success,” he added.

As for policymakers and OGSE clients, Mohd Yazid urged them to continue working together to align procurement, financing and incentives to reward innovation, sustainability and local capability.

“When government, industry, and financiers move in the same direction, transitions accelerate, and the returns are more rewarding for everyone,” he said.

He added that MPRC, an agency of the Economy Ministry, stands ready to play its part, especially in bridging the government and the private sector.

He stressed that the OGSE Blueprint Mid-Term Review, launched earlier this year, positions the industry to align with the NETR, including flagship projects such as CCUS and hybrid hydro-floating solar, which will depend heavily on OGSE capabilities.

Organised by Informa Markets Malaysia, OGA 2025 opened its 21st edition today, attracting industry leaders, companies and professionals eager to capture new opportunities in the region’s fast-growing energy landscape.

Held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the event carries the theme “Powering Progress, Shaping Tomorrow”, as the region seeks to strengthen economic integration with energy as a key cornerstone under Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year.
