AMMB Higher In Early Trading On Healthy 1Q FY2026 Financial Performance

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- AMMB Holdings Bhd’s shares on Bursa Malaysia went up in the early session today after delivering healthy financial results for the first quarter of its 2026 financial year ended June 30, 2025 (1Q FY2026) on Monday.

As of 11.16 am, the counter rose 3.0 sen to RM5.48 with a total of 1.03 million shares changing hands.

According to CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd, AMMB’s 1Q FY2026 annualised net earnings came in about 7.0 per cent above its forecast, accounting for 28 per cent of the financial year’s net profit estimate of RM1.815 billion, but were in line with consensus expectations.

“The positive surprise versus our prior expectation was due to significantly lower provisions, amounting to an annualised net credit charge (NCC) of 25 basis points (bps) vis-à-vis our significantly higher forecast of 50 bps.

“On a more positive note, AMMB has maintained its FY2026 net credit cost guidance of 15–20 bps and could reach around 20 bps for the year, driven by corporate loan recoveries, which could subsequently be reallocated as small and medium enterprise (SME) overlay reserves,” it said in a note.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, AMMB has announced a higher net profit of RM516.18 million in the 1Q FY2026 from RM500.20 million in the same period a year ago, with revenue also increased to RM1.29 billion from RM1.18 billion previously contributed by improvements in both net interest income (NII) and non-interest income (NoII).

AmBank Group chief executive officer Jamie Ling said AMMB is managing through a period of turbulence and has achieved a good start to the new financial year.

“The Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) reduction will have some impact on net interest margins in the near term. As our economy adjusts to the 19 per cent tariff imposed on most Malaysian exports to the United States, we are confident that economic growth will remain resilient,” he said.
