KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has received approval to implement three programmes under the Socioeconomic Development Programme for the Indian Community (PPSMI) initiative with an allocation of RM21.25 million.
Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan said RM10.514 million is allocated for the Private Kindergarten Early Education Subsidy Programme, which is expected to benefit 4,700 Indian children in enhancing access to early education.
Additionally, the Dialysis Subsidy Assistance Programme, with an allocation of RM10 million, is expected to benefit 2,000 dialysis patients as an intervention to help Indian kidney patients receive regular treatment.
Ramanan added that the PPSMI 2021-2023 impact study, with a budget of RM736,952.50, is being conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of past programmes as a basis for policy improvements and future programme implementation.
In a response posted on the Parliament’s website, Ramanan added that the PPSMI 2021-2023 impact study, with a budget of RM736,952.50, is being conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of past programmes as a basis for policy improvements and future programme implementation.
The deputy minister was responding to Ramkarpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor), who asked about the delayed disbursement of funds under MITRA as the unit had already received 1,332 applications for these allocations between December 2024 and January 2025, and the government’s plans to address these delays.
Ramanan said that MITRA opened applications on June 26, 2025, for the Early Childhood Education Subsidy Assistance Programme and the Dialysis Subsidy Assistance Programme, and the grants for both programmes will be disbursed in stages to eligible applicants, either directly to recipients or through relevant government agencies.
“The grant disbursement for the PPSMI 2021–2023 impact study will be made after the signing of an agreement with the University of Malaya in the near future,” he added.
