Family Prays For Recovery Of Sedated Officer Involved In Police Helicopter Crash

JOHOR BAHRU, July 11 (Bernama) -- The family of Constable R.G. Devendran remain hopeful that the officer, who is still under sedation in the intensive care unit of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), will recover soon.

The 30-year-old Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters based officer was sedated due to a lung infection.

"We leave everything to the specialists. For now, he is still sedated… all we can do is pray," said his brother, R G Navindran, 39, also a police officer at the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters.

He said Doctors believe that complications from near-drowning may have caused his brother's condition.

Devendran was part of the crew of the Royal Malaysia Police AS355N helicopter that crashed into Sungai Pulai during the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM) 2025, a cooperation between Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore

The Marine Police Unit successfully rescued all crew members, and they are receiving treatment at the HSA.

"He always wanted to be a policeman. I'm a policeman too. We're the only two siblings serving in the force," said Navindran.

Meanwhile, due to the crash, the aircraft's pilot, ACP Faizul Muhammad, 46, had to cancel sending his eldest daughter to university this weekend.

He sustained injuries to his head, ribs, and waist in the incident and is now receiving treatment at HSA.

"He was supposed to take his daughter to an university in Terengganu this Sunday, but now his wife will be taking over that task," said his sister-in-law Liza Omar, 46, when met by Bernama at HSA today.

Liza said Faizul's condition is now stable and showing positive signs of recovery, including being able to eat, speak, and joke with family members.

"Today he asked me to bring him some kuih (local cakes). But yesterday, our hearts broke seeing his condition. We were shocked, but thankfully he's getting better, although still under observation," she said.

Earlier today, Director of the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim, said all five PDRM personnel involved in the incident are in stable condition and receiving treatment and care at HSA.
