SABAK BERNAM, July 2 (Bernama) -- MNRB Holdings Berhad (MNRB) continues its commitment to supporting student excellence, particularly among the B40 group, through the MNRB Lestari Cemerlang programme.

At the closing ceremony of the programme held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Ungku Aziz here today, MNRB awarded scholarships to five of the school’s top 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students.

President and chief executive officer of Malaysian Reinsurance Berhad (Malaysian Re) Ahmad Noor Azhari Abdul Manaf said the scholarships, offered through the MNRB Scholarship Fund, bring the total number of recipients under the programme to 15.

“Out of the total, eight are now serving in various departments within the MNRB Group. This scholarship reflects our commitment to supporting the aspirations of rural students in pursuing higher education.

“We believe that with a little encouragement and opportunity, they can achieve great success in the future,” he said when met after the ceremony.

Ahmad Noor Azhari said the MNRB Lestari Cemerlang programme was designed to help rural schools achieve excellence in various areas, particularly academics, in line with MNRB’s ongoing efforts to support students to excel in both academics and co-curricular activities.

“This initiative encompasses a variety of programmes that support academic excellence and holistic character building for students. It demonstrates our commitment to building an educated, progressive, and competitive society,” he added.

Scholarship recipient Muhammad Zain Hazrey Hamid@Zulkifly, 18, who lost his father to a stroke in 2023, expressed gratitude for the assistance, which he said would ease his mother’s financial burden.

Muhammad Zain, who will pursue a diploma in accounting at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, said he plans to fully utilise the scholarship to achieve his ambition of becoming a certified accountant.

“I was also informed that this scholarship comes with a potential job opportunity at MNRB. Insya-Allah, I will not waste this chance, and I’m grateful that my efforts have paid off,” said Muhammad Zain, who scored 8As in the 2024 SPM.

Meanwhile, Nor Aisyah Humairah Rosli, 18, said the scholarship would enable her to focus more on her studies without worrying about finances, especially as her parents are growing older.

Over the two years of the MNRB Lestari Cemerlang programme at SMK Ungku Aziz, various contributions and sponsorships have been channelled, including academic initiatives such as tuition and additional classes, motivational programmes, and SPM excellence workshops.

MNRB also sponsored a special room named the MNRB e-Learning Room, equipped with facilities such as a smart TV and a smartboard.

Through its subsidiary Takaful IKHLAS, MNRB also sponsored another room, the IKHLAS e-Screening Room, which is part of the school’s upgraded resource centre.

These rooms are now equipped with teaching and learning facilities, all utilising internet connectivity and smart TVs.

At the same event, MNRB’s subsidiary, Malaysian Re, also contributed through its wakalah (delegated) zakat initiative to upgrade the school surau.
