KUALA NERUS, June 7 (Bernama) -- This year’s Aidiladha celebration in the district was made more meaningful with the participation of the Terengganu Media Journalists Club (KAWAT) and the Teluk Ketapang Neighbourhood Watch Area (KRT), who joined hands to organise the ‘ibadah korban’ (animal sacrificial rituals).

A total of 10 cows were slaughtered during the programme, which was held with the support of the Teluk Ketapang Homestay Association, the Al-Ansar Mosque management, the 18th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (Para) from Sri Pantai Camp, and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).

The effort brought together some 300 volunteers, including military personnel, KAWAT members, international students from UniSZA and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), as well as members of the Teluk Ketapang community. They worked in unison to process and distribute the meat to underprivileged residents across Kuala Nerus.

KAWAT president Ahmad Safri Husnaini Mohamad said this year marked the first time the journalists’ club had taken part in the sacrificial rites, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the community.

“Part of the meat was distributed to underprivileged families, while the remainder was shared among the volunteers who have been working tirelessly since early morning,” he said.

Meanwhile, UniSZA’s International Student Association president Iram Shehzadu Sabir, 37, from Islamabad, Pakistan, said a total of 36 students from the Gong Badak campus took part in the programme.

He noted that although the celebration differed slightly from those in his home country, the joy and togetherness were still deeply felt.

“The experience is truly wonderful. This is my third year celebrating Aidiladha here. It's always exciting and meaningful, especially with the involvement of the armed forces in both the slaughtering and distribution process.

“Today, 36 students from various countries and cultural backgrounds came together to celebrate the occasion,” he said when met at the Al-Ansar Mosque.

Another student, Zainab Muhammad, 29, from Nigeria, expressed her joy at being able to support the local community during the sacrificial ritual.

"This is my second year in Malaysia, and the Aidiladha celebration here is very lively. It's not just about the slaughter and distribution, women also take part in the cooking, which really adds to the festive spirit," said Zainab, speaking fluently in Malay.
