SHAH ALAM, May 21 (Bernama) -- A total of 96 primary and secondary schools across Selangor will participate in the 2025 Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup Championship and the 2025 Raja Muda Selangor (RMS) Cup starting this October.

The Championships Main Committee chairman, Datuk Emran Kadir said the tournaments will involve 32 teams each for the Under-18 and Under-15 categories of the Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup, and the Under-12 category for the RMS Cup.

He said the tournaments, initiated by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, aims to serve as a talent identification and development platform for state and national football at a young and grassroots level.

“His Royal Highness’ wish is for this tournament to produce as many talents as possible, not just for Selangor but also for the country.

“Players who displayed outstanding performances in previous editions of the tournament have even been accepted into the Mokhtar Dahari National Football Development Academy,” he said at a press conference on the tournament held here today.

Emran said the annual tournaments have secured sponsorship exceeding RM300,000 this year, with two Selangor state government-linked companies serving as the main sponsors, alongside private companies and local authorities.

Elaborating further, Emran said the Under-18 champions of the Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup will take home RM10,000 along with medals, while the Under-15 champions will receive RM8,000 in cash and medals.

The RMS Cup champions will walk away with RM5,000 in cash and medals.

Meanwhile, Emran said the tournament schedule will follow the timetable arranged by the Selangor State Education Department to ensure that students’ academic sessions are not disrupted, especially for those sitting for exams or tests.

He noted that each team will be sponsored to cover expenses including transportation, jerseys and other necessities.
