NEW DELHI, May 6 (Bernama) -- Haji Syed Salman Chishty, a key Indian religious figure and caretaker of the Ajmer Sufi shrine, will participate in the International Conference of Religious Leaders being held in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Malaysia is hosting the event in collaboration with the Makkah-based organisation Muslim World League (MWL).

Around 2,000 religious and intellectual figures from 57 countries are expected to participate in the conference which aims to foster dialogue, understanding and cooperation among diverse religious communities.

Salman Chishty is head of the non-government organisation Chishty Foundation.

In a statement, MWL said the International Conference of Religious Leaders titled 'Promoting Interfaith Harmony among Followers of Religions’ is a platform that will discuss several themes related to pluralism, tolerance, moderation, education, building bridges, and inclusive commonalities.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the conference Tuesday in the presence of the MWL’s Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organisation of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Abdulkarim Al-Issa at Sunway Resort Hotel, Petaling Jaya in Selangor.
