"SHERIFF" SHOWCASES KAMAL AFFANDI'S VERSATILE PERSONA

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Known for his expertise in security matters, Kamal Affandi Hashim is a prominent crime analyst regularly featured in newspapers and on television.

With a decade of experience in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), his skillful analysis and keen observations of cases have positioned him as the go-to source for understanding the factors contributing to crime.

The expertise possessed by the 2012 Honorary Assistant Superintendent Award recipient also captured the attention of renowned director Syafiq Yusof, leading to an offer for Kamal Affandi to star in his latest action-packed film “Sheriff” currently showing in cinemas nationwide.

Having amassed over RM1 million during its sneak preview on April 17, Kamal Affandi said that Syafiq’s offer was too good to refuse, evoking a nostalgic return to his old stomping grounds over two decades since leaving the force.

“This is my first time working with Syafiq, and I’m impressed by his openness to others’ viewpoints and ideas. It’s also a great privilege for me to collaborate with renowned actors like Zul Ariffin and Syafiq Kyle in this action-packed thriller,” he told Bernama when met at the film gala night recently.

Kamal Affandi said this was his second venture after featuring in the 2013 film “KL Gangster 2”, directed by Syafiq’s brother, Syamsul Yusof.

Playing the supporting role of Hafsham, who serves in the Narcotics Department, he was open to sharing his input with the director and production team to ensure the police film’s scenes were more realistic.

Sharing on his experience throughout the 81-day shooting schedule, Kamal Affandi said that despite undergoing minor surgery on his forehead and sustaining a leg injury prior to filming, his dedication to bringing the character to life successfully never wavered.

He said that the most challenging part to execute was the scene where he had to rescue ASP Jennifer Wong, played by Elizabeth Tan, in a dilapidated bus, which required him to switch weapons seamlessly while navigating through intense action sequences.

“The scene’s standout moment for me is when I unveil the cloth from the captive and spontaneously utter the word ‘Allahuakbar’,” he said.

Released in theatres on April 18, “Sheriff” unfolds the tale of Nazri (played by Syafiq Kyle), a police officer attached to the Narcotics Department, who grapples with the conflict with a drug syndicate masterminded by Tony Ifrit (played by Aaron Aziz).

At the same time, Sheriff (played Zul Ariffin) from the Integrity Department is assigned by Bukit Aman to crack the ‘Meth Killer’ case, partnering with Nazri.
