KOTA KINABALU, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The official dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today, paving the way for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17), will provide an opportunity for the people of Sabah to choose and give a mandate to a new government.
Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said UMNO and BN Sabah are confident that the people of Sabah will make a wise choice in selecting parties and candidates capable of bringing about a better wave of change for the people and the state of Sabah.
He stated that UMNO and BN are ready to bring better changes to the people of Sabah, coming not with empty promises, but with proven capability and experience.
“We believe the people of Sabah deserve to live better than they do today; they deserve to enjoy opportunities, progress, and solid political stability. This is the time for us to correct the course of the state of Sabah.
“As the saying goes, 'practice makes perfect' (alah bisa tegal biasa), the experience of UMNO-BN will be the foundation to restore Sabah onto the path of progress, stability, and the welfare of the people,” he said in a statement here today.
Earlier, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN), effective today, at Menara Kinabalu, after obtaining the consent of the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah Tun Musa Aman.
The dissolution of the Sabah DUN is to make way for the PRN17, and Sabah is currently governed by an interim government with Hajiji performing the duties of the Chief Minister until a new state government is formed and a new chief minister is appointed after the election.
Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe also expressed gratitude to all the voters in the Luyang state constituency for giving him the opportunity to serve as a minister and representative of the people in the area, describing it as the greatest honour and joy in his life.
Sabah PAS Commissioner Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan, in a brief post on his Facebook page, said democracy is best celebrated following the dissolution of the Sabah DUN today.
He urged that noble morals and values be prioritised at all times, and that enmity and slander be avoided.
Sabah Perikatan Nasional Chairman Dr Ronald Kiandee said in a statement that the party is confident the people of Sabah are matured enough and ready to bring about change for a better future by electing a new state government.
“The dissolution of the Sabah DUN today has long been awaited by the people of Sabah because it will open the way for the people to determine the new direction of the state,” he said.
