PKR National Congress Continues With Debate Session

JOHOR BAHRU, May 24 (Bernama) -- The 2024/2025 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress, which was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last night, continued today with a debate session on the president's keynote address.

Held at the Persada International Convention Centre here, the debate session, which began at 9.20 am, involves 16 debaters from the states, the Youth wing (Angkatan Muda Keadilan - AMK) and also the Wanita wing.

Among the topics to be addressed by the debaters are long-term strategies for building a pluralistic Malaysia, the collective role of all members in restructuring the party’s strength, state-level initiatives as evidence of PKR’s capability to govern effectively as well as the roles of the party, the people and the nation.

Delegates will also touch on issues such as subsidies, wages and cost of living, the Sabah State Election, Islam in national administration, and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

After the debate session concludes, permanent chairman Datuk Ahmad Kassim will announce the dissolution of the 2022-2025 Central Leadership Council (MPP), followed by the voting session for the permanent chairman and deputy permanent chairman for the 2025-2028 term.

The Congress will continue with the announcement of the new permanent chairman and deputy permanent by Central Election Committee (JPP) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

Following that, the new MPP will take to the stage to replace the previous MPP.

In the official election results announced yesterday, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, won the president's post unopposed, while Nurul Izzah Anwar was elected as the new deputy president, replacing Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who is also the Economy Minister.

The three incumbents - Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang -retained their positions as vice-presidents.

Deputy Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan was the new face who gained the delegates’ mandate to take on the role of vice-president, replacing Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim and Ampang Division head Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman, better known as Altimet, were also among the new faces who secured positions in the MPP this time.

In addition, the political secretary to the Finance Minister, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim won the Youth wing chief post uncontested while Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek retained her position as the Wanita chief by defeating Ampang Member of Parliament Rodziah Ismail.

The 2025-2028 leadership election saw the participation of a total of 251 candidates, comprising 104 nominations for the Central Leadership Council, 85 for the Youth Leadership Council and 62 for the Wanita Leadership Council.

The National Congress will end today with a winding-up session by the newly-elected party leadership.
